    Rolling Tips

    • If someone is riding my back in turtle, consider escaping by moving underneath my opponent’s legs like a game of leapfrog.

    • If you get into a high mount, don’t limit your submission tactics. You have a high amount of control, and the neck is avaliable.

    Techniques Taught:

    • Fireman’s Carry

    • Guard Pull to Armbar

    • Butterfly Sweep

    • Single Leg Takedown Counter to T-Kimura

    • Tripod Sweep

    • Rolling Turtle Escape

    Rolling Takeaways

    • If I try to do a calf-slicer when my opponent is in turtle, my opponent will probably try to roll toward me to escape it. When they do, this is my moment to roll over to the other side of them (holding their foot) to get into a truck position and finish the submission. (See the linked video above.)

    • If your opponent is on your back when you are in turtle, do not be afraid to tripod and dump them down like a truck.

    • If you are trying to do the guillotine and can’t get your other hand to lock the choke, try doing the d’arce choke.

    • If your opponent has your chin and neck crank you, it hurts like all hell

    • Putting your finger above your opponent’s nose to lift their chin and get your hand under for a choke will not make you friends, but it may make your teacher laugh.
